SUNDAY ENTERTAINMENT

OPENING OF THEATRES LEGISLATION IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 20. (Received March 21, at 6.5 p.m.) The Government’s Bill to deal with the Sunday opening of picture theatres and other places of entertainment will be presented in the House of Commons next week. The Bill is modelled on the measure which was introduced by the former Home Secretary (Mr J. R. Clynes) in the last Parliament, which accepted the second reading by 258 votes to 110. That Bill conferred on councils the right to permit Sunday -entertainments and protected those to whom licenses were issued from penalties under the Sunday Observance Act.
