COMMERCE FACULTY STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Otago University Commerce Faculty Students’ Association was held last week at the University, when there were about 00 members present. In moving the adoption of the annual report the president (Mr R. H. Cabot) commented on the appointment of Mr G. W. Reid, who has been Dean of the Faculty for the 20 years of its existence, as a member of the Railways Board. Commerce students, while pleased to sec Mr Reid’s capabilities recognised, were very sorry to hear of his resignation. The appointment of Mr J. M. Paterson as his successor would meet with unanimous approval, and every student would wish him a very pleasant term of office. The president congratulated the faculty on winning, in conjunction with the law faculty, the Thomson Shield for 1932 at the recent inter-faculty sports, and especially congratulated Mr R. 0. Johnson on gaining numerous points for the faculty. Last year the established custom was departed from in connection with the ball, and the innovation of holding it in the Town Mall was decidedly popular, as no fewer than 120 couples had been present in spile of counter-attractions. The annual dinner had proved very popular, and all those who were present had had a very enjoyable time. Mr Cabot thanked the. members of the Retiring Committee for their support, and paid a tribute to the work done by the retiring secretary (Mr A. W. Gray), wlio had carried out his duties in a very conscientious manner. He also thanked the 0.U.5.A., the local branch of the Society of Accountants, the Chamber of Commerce, members of the staff, and other friends for very valued assistance. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr A. K. Ibbotson; vice-presi-dent, Mr R. J. Cook; secretary, Mr W. R. Chapman; treasurer, Mr J. G. Wilson; committee —Messrs W. T. Doig, W. A. Stewart, K. Cox, C. R. Nicolson, and J. W. Hayward.
