WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION
There was a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. In the absence of the president (Miss A. Gray, who was attending the conference at Wanganui), Mrs Anstice (vicepresident) occupied tlie chair. Apologies were received from several members for non-attendance. Mrs Anstice took her address from “ Daily Light,” the subject being God’s ability and willingness to help all who believed and trusted in Him. A welcome was extended to Mrs Tinker, a past member of the Valley Union, who was on a visit from Ashburton. ‘■
An invitation was received from the Salvation Army to attend the reception to be given to Commissioner and Mrs Higgins, and it was decided that a reply be sent that all who could attend would do so.
The speaker for the afternoon was the Rev. George Miller, who gave a very interesting address on the subject, “ The Vision of the Holy River.” He said that this wonderful river represented Christianity, which, flowing through the world, had its source in God (as the risen in the Vision had its source in the sanctuary), and brought life, health, comfort, and peace to all who came under its power and influence.
A vote of thanks to Mrs Millis was proposed by Mrs Sanders and heartily carried.
