SUMMER GOLF The closing day of the summer golf season was held on the Awamoa links on Saturday. The greens were perfect ana the weather conditions were ideal tor the occasion. In his remarks on the excellent season enjoyed by the goiters, tne president (Mr M. S. Holmes) said the season had been a thoroughly successful one, largely due to the good comradeshin of the members. The programme ot play had been varied and interesting, ana the visits to the links of Messrs Ireland and Grave at Waianakarua had been very enjoyable. With the exception of two Saturdays, matches had been played throughout the season, the outstanding performance being a round of 74 in a flag match by G. L. Cuthbertson. The best all-round scores had been made by Stott, and there had been a steady improvement in the play of M Kenzie and Milnes. The members were indebted to Mr M'Beath for the manner in which the greens had been kept, and to Mrs M'Beath for the splendid afternoon teas provided. He thanked members for theirwilling assistance throughout the season, and expressed best wishes for the winter sea-on. and the hope that they would all be back together for the summer golt ot 1932-33. OAMARU BOXING ASSOCIATION The past year has proved a very successful one for the Oamaru Boxing Association, after being inactive during the previous year. Three very successful tourneys were held, and the standard of boxing at times reached a high level, causing complimentary comment, which was very gratifying to the committee. The financial statement of the association discloses a credit of £25 17s 3d on the year's working, and in the annual reporr congratulations are extended to Mr T. Croft (West Coast) on winning the middle-weight title at the New Zealand championships. There were 51 financial members of the association, which was serving a useful purpose in developing lads to take part in a manly sport. Congratulations are extended to Allan Campbell, an Oamaru boy, who ha s achieved success in the professional ranks againsi the best Australia could offer. Thanks arc expressed to the press and the honorary doctors, and special mention made of the services rendered by Messrs T. Nightingale, A. S. Blackledge, and H. Nightingale.

CRICKET TOWN v. COUNTRY. The return match between Town and Country was played at Hydro on Saturday. Town securing a margin on the first innings. Country batted first, Milner and Wishart opening. Milner was caught behind the wickets, but Wishart and MTvor made a stand until Davey took a catch at cover to dispose of the former. Neill notched only a single, and MTvor, Vorarth, and Grainger then went in quick succession. Morrow and Leeson formed a good partnership. Morrow especially playing forceful cricket until he put his leg in front to Zimmerman. The tail did not get going, and the innings closed for 93 runs, Brown, Zimmerman, and Davey bowling well for Town. Brown and Walton opened for the visitors, but Walton was dismissed Ibw without scoring. Davey was the incomer, and immediately went for the bowling, knocking 16 off Morrow’s first over. Brown did not reach double figures, and Zimmerman filled the vacancy. Runs came quickly, Davey hitting two sixes and many smart singles being run. Zimmerman had reached 19 when he was caught in the slips, and Davey was the next to be dismissed after a lively knock for 45, which included four .fours and a brace of sixes. Taylor and Spear were quickly accounted. for, but Maddigan and "Geddas passed Country’s total, and the innings closed for 110. Trevathan, M'lvor, and' Grainger secured most of the wickets. In the second strike Country fared better, and played out time for 115 runs for seven wickets. Milner was soon run out, and Wishart lifted a catch, which was held by Zimmerman. Leeson and M'lvor formed a promising partnership, but Leeson succumbed to a catch by Davey at cover. Vorrath was the newcomer, and piled on the runs with M'lvox - , who compiled 26 before Zimmerman scattered his wickets with a beautiful ball. Morrow assisted Vorrath to carry on, Vorrath batting in great style and lifting Zimmerman clean over the boundary. When the total had reached 93 Davey held a catch from Morrow, and in his next over .bowled Neill, while M'Calhjm held a sensational catch to dismiss Grainger. HIGH SCHOOL CRICKET WAITAKI v. TIM ABU. The match between the second elevens of the Waitaki and Timaru Boys High Schools commenced at Timaru on inursday, and was continued on Friday ana Saturday morning. A late start was made on Saturday morning owing to the drizzle, and when play was commenced the imiaru bowlers were handicapped for a time by the wet ball. The match ended in a draw. Timaru was 35 runs ahead on the first innings and in the second closed the innings with nine for 180. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mrs Campbell; vicepresidents, Mesdames D. Johnstone and Herron; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Kinninmont; committee —Mcsdamej; Austin, Gillies, and Miss Herron. ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM A successful shut-off of power at the Weston sub-station was carried out yesterday afternoon by the Public Works Department without affecting the power supply to the Waitaki Electric Power Board’s system. This was the first time the Weston sub-station had been closed down under such conditions, the power from Coleridge being fed through from Glenavy to the Waitaki Hydro electric works and back on to the board’s country system as far as Weston, while the town consumers were supplied by the board’s own plant. AWAMOKO ATHLETIC CLUB The annual sports meeting of the Awamoko Athletic Club was held at Georgetown on Saturday in ideal weather conditions. There was a largo gathering of the public present and some very closely contested races were witnessed. There were good entries in all the events, which were run off to schedule. The committee had the various arrangements well in hand and a good afternoon’s’ sport resulted. The 120 Yards Georgetown Handicap was won by R. Hunter, with J. Falloon a close second. J.
