The fortnightly summoned meeting of Court Pride of the Leith was held on Wednesday last, when there was a large attendance of members. The C.R., Bro. T. F. M'Natty, was in the chair. The court was in mourning in memory of Bro, W. B. A. Pledger, who had passed away that day after a long illness. A motion of sympathy with the family and relatives of the late member was carried, all standing in silence. A similar motion was passed to P.C.R. Bro. R. Jefferson, secretary of Court Saint Andrews, who had lost his wife recently. The secretary of the court’s Cricket Club reported that tne match against Court Excelsior was very pleasant and was played in the true sporting spirit. It was won by Court Pride of the Leith. The business paper for the forthcoming annual meeting of the district was discussed and the delegates were instructed accordingly. Two new members were admitted with the usual ceremonies. Although they were unable to play owing to the inclement weather, members had spent an enjoyable time. The resignation of Bro W. G. Wilson as the treasurer, through removal to Gore, was accepted with regret. It was resolved that a minute of appreciation of his services to the court he placed on record, and a copy sent to Bro. Wilson. On a ballot being taken for the vacant position, P.C.R. Bro. G. W. Sidon was elected, and was installed by P.C.R. Bro, E. Marshall, and he returned thanks for his election. The business paper for the annual meeting of the district was considered, and discussion will take place at next meeting. The nomination of officers and Standing Committee for the ensuing six months took place, and there will be keen competition on the election night next meeting. P.C.R. Bro. J. Begg reported on the recent fraternal visit to P.C.R. Bro. E. Hollick (Dunedin), when 16 members made the trip. A pleasant evening was spent, and Bro. Hollick, who has been laid aside for some time, expressed his appreciation of the fraternal spirit shown, and thanked the members for their good wishes. One new member was admitted. As P.C.R. Bro. E. J. Gibb had resigned as a delegate to the annual conference, S.C.R. Bro. W. Kennedy was appointed in his stead. The usual fortnightly meeting of Court Saint Andrew’s was held on Monday last, when C.R. Bro. H. C. Halford presided over a full complement of officers and an excellent attendance of members. The members expressed satisfaction with the way the officers had carried out their duties in the general efficiency competition, and passed a hearty vote of thanks to the judges. P.D.C.R. Bro. R. S. Vercoe and P.C.R. Bro. H. L. Thomson. The business paper was fully discussed and the delegates were left a free hand to deal with several of the remits. The resignation of the worthy secretary, P.C.R. Bro. R. Jefferson, was read with great regret, and it was decided to pay a fitting tribute to that brother at a later date on his long and faithful service to the court. One nomination was received before the meeting closed. The fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of Gore was held on Thursday last, when C.R. Sis. Richards presided over a fair attendance of members. The court was honoured by a visit from Bro. M‘Vicar, of Court Woodford, Kaiapoi, and Bro. Haig, of Court Papanui, Christchurch. These members expressed pleasure at being with the Gore members, and hoped they would pay many visits to the court. On behalf of the court, the C.R. presented the sash of that office to P.C.R. Bro. Cottrell, and spoke highly of his work for the court and?as a Forester. Nomination of officers for the next term were taken, and the election will take place at next meeting. After the meeting closed a social evening was held in honour of P.C.R. Sis. Gray, who is to be married shortly. The C.R., on behalf of the members, presented Sis. Grey with a token of esteem and referred to the good work she had done for the court. Secretary Bro. Newman and P.C.R. Bro. Whitty also endorsed the remarks of the C.R.. and wished the guest of the evening every happiness in the future. Sister Gray replied in a suitable manner, and a pleasant function concluded at a late hour with “ Auld Lang Syne.”
