CRICKET BAT WINS CHALLENGE STAKES AUTUMN HANDICAP TO ARIKIIiA. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. March 19. The Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting was concluded at Trentham today in fine, hot weather, the attendance beinc fair. The track was fast. The totalisator handled £24,239 10s, as against £36,712 10s on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £42,491, compared with £68,930 10s last year, a decrease of £26,439 10s. Crest. King Colossus, Shatter, and Jaloux. Grand Jury was last. Jaloux got badly knocked on the turn out of the straight, and went back, but was soon in a prominent position again. Rapid changes took place in the middle stages. Gay Crest going right back half a mile from home. Earthquake, Jaloux, Joie de Val, Arikira, and Grand Jury was the order into tho straight, where Gay Crest challenged from the rear. Arikira finished best to win by a length, Gay Crest beating Grand Jury by half a head. Star Stranger fourth, then King Colossus, High Falutin, Shatter and Jaloux. Time, 2min 19Jsec.

Gaine Carrington and Lady Quex led into the straight from Cricket Bat, La Moderne. and Cadland. Cricket Bat and Cadland drew away, the former winning by half a neck in a fighting finish.
