CONFERENCE DELEGATES

OTTAWA AND LAUSANNE PROVISIONAL BRITISH LIST (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, March 17. The Prime Minister announced in the House of Commons to-day the provisional list of delegates to the Ottawa and Lausanne Conferences. He said the Government had to be represented practically simultaneously at three most important conferences this summer—the Disarmament Conference at Geneva, the conference at Lausanne opening in June, and the Imperial Conference at Ottawa in July. Any announcement must depend on the claims made upon the services of the Ministers during the summer. The delegation for Geneva was known. The representatives for Ottawa would be the Secretary for the Dominions (Mr J. H. Thomas), the Secretary for the Colonies (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister), the President of the Board of Trade (Mr Walter Runciman), and a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, and, subject to Government business considerations, the Lord President of the Council (Mr Stanley Baldwin), the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain), and the War Secretary (Lord Hailsham) would also attend. At the Lausanne Conference the Government would be represented by the Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain, Sir John Simon, and Mr Walter »Runciman. If advisable and possible the services might be utilised of Sir Herbert Samuel, Sir Samuel Hoare, or a representative of the Dominions’ Office. THE OTTAWA DELEGATION. FAVOURABLE PRESS COMMENT. LONDON, March 18. (Received March 18, at 9 p.m.) The Daily Telegraph says: “The announcement of the Ottawa delegation will give great satisfaction. There has been real anxiety that the best and strongest British team should be selected. Mr Baldwin will be the virtual leader of the delegation, and there is every reason to believe that this will be acceptable both to the dominions and to the Home Country.” Other newspaper comment is on similar lines. The Times welcomes the selection as a compliment to the importance of the conference in the nomination of outstanding members of the Government.
