Synthetic scent, which costs less than one-tenth the price of the perfumes distilled from flowers, is helping to destroy the famous perfume industry of the South of France. As white, though very visible, is too dazzling in sunshine, the authorities in the South of France are discussing having all main roads coloured red, with secondary roads green or yellow.
