Nine teams entered for the secondary schools’ competition. The Otago Girls’ High School team won the first place with 16 points, Columba College took second place with 13 points, and Technical School third place with 11 points. The standard of play in this grade was very high. Hockey still continues to be a very i popular sport in primary schools. The results of the games played during the season were:: —A Grade (six teams): Mosgiel 1, High Street 2. Green Island 3; B 1 Grade: Concord 1, High Street 2; C Grade; Mosgiel 1, Kaikorai 2. In the seven-a-side tournament, A Grade, eight | teams entered, Mosgiel winning the Millie Hudson Cup, with Green Island runnersup. In the B Grade there were 14 entries; High Street won the Herbert Smith Trust Cup, with Concord second. As this was jubilee year, the executive thought it fitting that a special function should be arranged for primary school girl teams, so the annual presentation of cups was held in the Vedic Tea Rooms, Mrs Hudson presiding over about 200 players. The seven-a-side tournament was held on June 3 at Logan Park. The number of entries in the A Grade was 16, and in the B Grade 30. These entries included 24 from the town clubs and 22 from the country clubs. The A- Grade was played off in two sections, Milton II and Otago I being the respective winners. In the final game Otago won the Shacklock Cup. The B Grade contest was divided into four sections, the winners of each section being Milton, Arawa, Taieri, and Otago I. In the semi-finals Milton beat Arawa, and Otago I beat Taieri. In the final play-off Milton, by beating Otago I, won the Ritchie Cup. The following representative matches were played during the season:—Otago won by eight goals to nil against South Canterbury, at the Oval; Otago A won by three goals to two against South Otago, at Logan Park; Otago B drew, two all, with South Otago, at Logan Uark; Otago won by two goals to one against Eastern District, at Gore; Otago won by four goals to one against Mamototo, at Waipiata: Otago A won by three goals to nil against North Otago, at Logan Park; Otago B won by three goals to one against North Otago, at Logan Park. On August 22 a knock-out seven-a-side tournament was held at the Oval, Otago winning the A Grade and Training College the B Grade.

As the association had completed 25 years of hockey at the of this season it was decided to make June 3 a special jubilee day, and the seven-a-side tournament was carried out on a larger scale than usual. In addition to the usual trophies (the cups which are held from year to year), the members of winning teams in both A and B Grades were presented with silver hockey stick brooches as souvenirs of the occasion. In the evening, as a closing' function to the day’s events, a ball was held in the Town Hall, and, socially, this was a decided success. The trophies won during the day were presented by the president (Mrs R>. Hudson), who also took the opportunity of presenting gifts to Mrs G. A. Nelson and Miss M. Hill.

The annual presentation of cups was held at the Otago Women’s Club rooms, when all players, the executive, and referees were the guests of Mrs R. Hudson. It is pleasing to note that two new clubs were formed and affiliated to the association during the season —West Taieri and West Harbour, This year all the grounds were in better condition than previously. An extra ground was granted in the enclosure at Logan Park, which was a considerable benefit, and allowed us to drop Jubilee Park. , , , Though the balance sheet shows a decrease in the cash balance of the general fund, the tournament fund remains the same, and the finances of the association are in a satisfactory state. The decrease ie due to the entertainment of several visiting teams and travelling expenses of the Otago team, and also expenses of the jubilee functions.
