MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was held last evening, Mr P. L. Ritchie presiding.

Correspondence was read from the town clerk advising that the petition through the association from residents in Glenross street, asking for street and pavement formation, was being complied with, and would be started without delay. A member referred to the question of the Nairn street continuation as work for the unemployed in the district. The chairman pointed out that the association had interested itself regarding this project some two years ago, but found that all the land in question was privately owned by several parties, and until they sanctioned the work and paid for forming the street the council could do nothing in the matter. In addition part of the ground had been leased for five years for cropping purposes, while two sports grounds for the private schools in the district had recently been drained, levelled, and grassed at considerable expense. It was therefore useless to think of such a proposition being put in hand.

Members wore pleased to note the commencement of the tar-sealing of Highgate. Although it was only a small portion that the City Council intended doing, members felt that a start had been made to this very necessary work, and as funds permitted other sections were likely to be sanctioned. —It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the council for having started the work. The chairman reported that the filling in of the children’s playing area near the bowling green had now been completed, and grass was to be sown down immediately. The stamping of weeds in Littlebourne crescent was begun, and, after formation, grass would be sown. It was decided to ask the City Council for the following works:—The cleaning up of footpaths in Manchester street; the reconstruction of the surface water drain at the junction of Kaikorai Valley road and Hereford street (at this point the drain could not carry the surface water during the heavy rain and the road became waterlogged); and that several high and encroaching live hedges on footpaths be ordered to be cut to regulation points.
