MONTHLY MEETING > The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held, in the boardroom yesterday afternoon' and was attended by Messrs S. Bowman (vice-president), in the chair, W. 0. M'Kellar, H. C. Campbell, Joseph Mosley, David Andrew, F. J, Conn. H. Turner, E. M North, John Hellyer and George Ross. 1 On the motion of Mr H. Turner, seconded by Mr H. C. Campbell, the Finance Committee’s report, recommending the payment of accounts amounting to f 110 Is lid, was approved. Letters of sympathy were sent to Mr A. Davidson (Alexandra) in ,the death of his wife, and to Mrs N. T. Reid {Outram) in the death of her husband. Mr James Begg wrote thanking the committee for its letter of appreciation on his being appointed to the Meat Board and to Economy Commission. —Noted. A letter was received from Mr S. C. Rhodes, apiary instructor, in connection with the honey section at the Winter Show, suggesting some alterations, which were approved —The secretary was instructed to thanlf Mr .Rhodes for his information. Mr R. Kinnaird, of. Alexandra, who hag been appointed to take charge of the fruit section ' at' l the Winter Show, was asked to revise that section and suggest any alterations that he/Considered advisable; On the motion of Mr Turner, seconded by Mr Conn, the appointment of Mr fvinnaird was approved, and he was .also thanked for accepting the position! ' The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Society wrote asking the committee to supply particulars of the charges made for accommodation for moter vehicles, dairy and other machinery, manufacturers and’other exhibits.—The secretary subemitted a reply* giving the necessary information, which was approved. Mr E. A. Phillips forwarded a photograph of Tahuna Park taken during the 1928 Summer Show. —The photo was accented with thanks. The secretary of the Dunedin and Suburban Butchers’ Union wrote thanking the committee for placing Tahuna Park at its disposal for the annual picnic, and enclosed a cheque for £2 as a donation to the society.—The secretary was instructed to thank the union for itsdonation of £2. The resignation of Messrs R. Geddes, j D. S. Middleton, and A. S. Elworthy wenreceived with regret A letter was received from the Dun edin Stock and Station Agents approving of the ram fair being held oh March 31, and also enclosing a cheque lor £7 7s towards the prizes for the export lamb competition.—Left in the hands ot the secretary to arrange. The secretary submitted a report in connection with the export lamb competition, which disclosed entries received from the Clutha A, and P. Society and other districts. It was to be regretted that this interesting competition did not receive more support from breeders, and showed the. necessity for making other arrangements in regard to the handling of stock. The letter from the Corriedale Sheep Society in connection with the question of unfair shearing was further discussed, and it was decided to communicate with the Southland A. and P. Society and refer the whole matter to the Sheep Committee j for report. . It was decided that the question ot the extension of the Winter Show for another day and the engaging of additional accommodation be hold over ' until, the next meeting. A letter was sent to Mr J. K. Davies. Department of Agriculture, asking him to supply the necessary conditions in connection with the calf competitions so 1 as to enable the full particulars being inserted in the schedule. Mr H. Turner took the opportunity of expressing his thanks to the members of the committee for the support that he had received during his term as president, and said he regretted that he would not have the opportunity of completing his year and presiding at the society’s annual meeting. Mr Turner also conveyed the special thanks of the officers at the camp at Tahuna Patk for the use of the grounds, which they appreciated very much Mr Turner said ho hoped that his arrangements might necessitate a return to the colony, and W hoped that it would be, at a date oc which either the Summer or Winter Show was being held to enable him to have ar opportunity of meeting members again.— The chairman stated that the committal fully recognised the value of the service' rendered by Mr Turner, and suggested ,tbat he be given a letter of introduction I to the Royal Sociotv of England, which was agreed to. Mr H. C. Campbell brought up the question of the society recognising the valuable services rendered both to the frozen sheep and to the dairy industry by the late Mr Thomas Brydone. Mr Campbell pointed out that it was now 50 years since the ship Dunedin left with the first cargo of frozen sheep, and it was mainly due to Mr Brydone that this shipment was sent to London. The proposal was strongly supported by Mr Joseph Mosley and others, and, after full consideration, it was decided that an effort should be made to secure a perpetual cup or trophy tor competition for sheep and dairy produce at the Summer lind Winter Shows.
