RIFLE SHOOTING
WEST TAIERI DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday the West Taieri Defence Rifle Club held its annual ladies’ day on the range, when there was a good attendance of members and their friends. The weather was fine and the light good, but a tricky head wind upset several promising scores. Ten shots' each were fired at 500 yards, the highest six scorers firing an additional 10 shots each, and the highest four of these six fired a final 10 shots to decide the winner. Top score for the three shoots was made by Rifleman R. Campbell, who compiled 142 out of a possible of 150, the next in order being President A. T. Graham (141), Rifleman W. Foster (140), and Rifleman A. Thomson (134). The winner of the trophy for the lady who drew the leading scorer was Miss Marshall. A competition was also held for the senior visitors’ trophy, which was presented by Mr A. Bnddicom, and the winner proved to be Mr Withers.
