Mr Justice Adams left by the second express yesterday for Wellington. Mr A. J. Sullivan went to Christchurch yesterday on business connected with the New Zealand Bowling Association. The commissioner of police (Mr W. G. Wohlmann), who has been visiting Otago district stations for the past few days, returned north yesterday morning. The University Senate, at its ‘annual meeting yesterday, decided to confer the honorary degree of doctor of science on Dr L. Cockayne, in recognition of his services to the Dominion in scientific investigation. A Press Association cable message from London states that Yvonne, the daughter of the late Sir Robert Lucas Tooth, was married to Mr Reginald George Booth, of Wellington, on Thursday. Mr A. S. Bell, formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Outram, has been appointed manager at Bluff, in succession to Mr L. M. Scott, who has been transferred to Milton as manager. The Rev. C. F. Pierce, who relinquished the position of headmaster of Wanganui Collegiate School on the grounds of illhealth, left Auckland by the Aorangi for London on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Mrs Pierce. Messrs J. W. Munro, M.P., and D. Tannock (superintendent of reserves) will represent the Dunedin City Corporation at the conference of Chairmen of Reserves Committees and Park Superintendents to be held in'Christchurch on January 26. The Mayor (Mr R. S. Black), whose return from Lauder, Central Otago, has been delayed by illness, is now restored to health. He expects to be back in Dunedin in time to attend the meeting of the City Council on Wednesday night. Mr John Hamer, manager of the St. James Theatre, Dunedin, left by yesterday afternoon’s express for Invercargill, where he will take charge, of the Majestic Theatre, relieving Mr Irvine Elston, who has been appointed manager of the Majestic Theatre and the Theatre Royal, Timaru. During Mr Hamer’s absence. Mr A,. R. M'Elwain, of the Strand Theatre, will take charge of the St. James Theatre.«
