TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I wish to thank “ Practical ” for his suggestions and, if he is willing, will gladly add them to my motion. The duck pond, which is there already, is & capital idea, as it would cost nothing, and thousands would flock to see it, and the “kiddies” would get any amount of fun out of feeding the ducks. It should rightly be a sanctuary, and sportsmen should not be allowed to shoot over it. As to the “toll downs,” remembering the huge success they were at our Exhibition, I am certain, owing to the central position, they would be even more successful than when placed in “ Chocolate Avenue.” This also would be a cheap addition to the other attractions. I am afraid the art union scheme might cut against the rights already granted, which appear to be permanent, but if he is agreeable to housing those poor fellows who, sunshine and rain, hold grimly on selling tickets in the alley off Princes street, I am quite agreeable. So long as the present unsightly and undignified appearance of the place is altered, I do not cure particularly what practical use or form of innocent amusement this part of our town is put to, and I am deeply grateful to “Practical” for his support. I am pleased beyond measure that he is not one of those who would favour painting the board fence and iron sheds and letting the space for advertising.—l am, etc., January 15. Clean *Ui>.
