BROADSIDING

MEETING TO-MORROW To-morrow's meeting at the Speedway Royle should appeal to all those who like a well-varied programme of broadsiding races. The management has taken special pains to draw up a series of events which will hold the interest of the crowd until the last rider flashes past the post, with the result that there should be few who will leave the stadium to-morrow night feeling that they have not received good value for their money. The public will welcome the announcement that teams’ racing, which proved so popular last season, is to be revived. There is something about this form of contest whicfy makes an especial appeal to the average person, and the teams for to-morrow night have been selected with such care that the issue should remain in doubt right up till the last race. The two popular Australians. Tommy Tompkins and Laurie Packer, will be the team captains. Tompkins will have as his followers Lyders, Elms and Crighton, while Packer’s men will be Nesbit, Bysouth, and Homer. Every one of these broadsiders is well known to the crowd, which should be treated to some firstclass racing. Special interest will attach to the riding in the Vulcan Oil Cup. which will be competed for on three successive Saturdays. As the winner will be the broadsider who secures the greatest number of points over the three meetings it will hardly be possible for any but a really good and consistent broadsider to share in the prize money. There will be one other open event, which will include four heats and a final, while variety will be lent by the inclusion of a one mile cycle race on the grass, for which particularly good entries have been received. The popular charges which were introduced at the beginning of the season will remain in force, making a night spent at the Speedway Royle one of the cheapest forms of entertainment to be had. Full particulars as to admission charges, etc.. will be found in the advertising columns of this issue.
