MURDER OF MAGISTRATE
CHARGE AGAINST INDIAN THE CASE COLLAPSES. CALCUTTA, January 13. The ease against Bimal Das Gupta, who was charged with murdering Mr Peddie, the district magistrate at Mid napore (Bengal) on April 7, collapsed owing to the witnesses going back on their statements originally made before the magistrates. The prosecution was withdrawn. Gupta is serving a sentence of 10 years for the attempted, murder of Mr Edward Villiers, president of the European Association.
