UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE A meeting of the Port Chalmers Unemployment Relief Committee was held yesterday afternoon. Mr W, Lunn presided. The question of men being employed to cultivate their own garden plots was discussed. The committee decided that a notice should be placed in the corporation yard notifying the desire of the Unemployment Board for unemployed men to cultivate garden plots. The notice will also state that men not having sufficient ground.to cultivate will be provided with land-by*the committee.. It was reported that the names of 273 unemployed men appeared on the register, and that 76 men had been provided with work this week. It was also reported that the sum allotted for relief work next week was £95.

The Mansford and Reynoldstown Ratepayers’ Association wrote asking if Mr D. Fletcher could represent that body on the Relief Committee. —It was pointed out that as no provision for such an appointment had,been made in the original circular; received from the Unemployment Board, the , committee bad" to decline' the application.
