Twenty-two boys and 699 girls in England ;■ net Wales married in 1930 at 16, the lowest legal age at which marriages may be solemnised. This fact is contained in the newly-issued Statistical Review for 1930 of the Registrar-general, which also shows that while 22 men married girls up to 23 years of age. the C 99 women and girls married men of ages varying between 1(5 and 49. In only five cases were the bride and bridegroom of the same age. The total number of marriages solemnised was 315.109, as against 313,316 in 1929. The rate in both years was 15.8 persons married per 1000 population at all ages—the highest rate recorded since 1921.
