SERVICES TO AVIATION

WING-COMMANDER GRANTDALTON PRESENTATION FROM AERO CLUBS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 8. The presentation of a silver tray on behalf of the New Zealand Aero Club was made this afternoon to Wing-com-mander Grant-Dalton in appreciation of his services to aviation during his term of office of Director of Air Services. On behalf of Sir Francis Boys, the first president of the New Zealand Aero Club, Mr A. W. Nisbet, secretary of the Welligton Aero Club, made the presentation. He wished Wing-commander Grant-Dal-ton a safe and pleasant voyage and a speedy return to New Zealand. On behalf of the New Plymouth Aero Club, Mr Nisbet also presented Wing-commander Grant-Dalton with a framed photograph of Mount Egmont. Wing-commander Grant-Dalton, responding, said that before he left the service he told Squadi’on-leader Wilkes he would like to present a trophy for the four squadrons in New Zealand to compete for each year, the trophy to be presented to the most efficient squadron. He hoped the four squadrons in New Zealand would keep up to the mark. It was impossible to run the service unless training operations were carried out at least once a year. The trasport of air mail was one aspect of aviation which he would like to see go ahead in New Zealand. He noticed that a service had been successfully run at Christmas time, and he thought that when the slump was over it might be developed. The inscription on the gift tray is ns follows; —“ Presented to Wing-commander S. Grant-Dalton on his departure from New Zealand by the New Zealand Aero Club, (inc.).” This is followed by the names of the various aero clubs in New Zealand.
