THE SANDERS CUP
SOUTHLAND’S REPRESENTATIVE. (Special to Daily Times.) INVERCARGILL, January 7. The Invercargill Boating Club has decided to send the 14ft yacht Val to represent Southland in the Sanders Cup contest to be sailed at Wellington, commencing on January 18. It is expected that the boat will leave Invercargill on Tuesday next either by rail or steamer, and the crew will leave on Thursday. The skipper will be Mr lan Gough, aud tha crew of four will be announced later. Two delegates will accompany the crew to Wellington. The yacht Val, which is owned by Messrs 0. E, Johnstone and Sons, of Invercargill, won the local trials. She has not previously represented Southland in a Sanders Cup contest. Built four years ago in Auckland, the Val is designed on orthodox 14£t lines and has put up some good performances.
