The cost of supporting Germany’s unemployed during the six winter months is officially estimated at £89,250,000 (calculated at par), which is £5,000,000 more than the reparation payments laid down for the whole of the current Young Plan year. It is forecast that unemployment will reach its peak in February with a figure of 6,500,000, and that it will average 5,800,000 throughout the present winter.
