A pair of trousers belonging to a film director, Mr Thomas Bentley, of Wembley Park, was lost while undergoing repairs, and he sued the repairers for the value of the whole suit, f 9 9s. The suit, he said, was a Scotch tweed of fairly striking pattern. It would be impossible to wear the coat and vest with trousers of a different kind. Defending solicitor: “He has lost only his trousers. It would be very hard on the repairers if they had to pay for a coat and vest which are absolutely good.” The judge, giving judgment for £9 9s, said he did not suppose that the solicitor himself would care to be seen at the seaside wearing a brown coat with a pair of blue aerga trousers.
