American life-guards— guardians at bathing beaches —have determined to put an end to the activities of people who want to be “saved” just for fun (says a message from New York). Therefore, when a young woman shouted too loudly when bathing off Coney Island she fount herself first in a life-guard’s arms and then in the police court, faced with a charge of disorderly conduct. The girl said she was not shouting for help, but merely waving and calling to friends uu the beach. The life-guard said differently, and claimed that when he swam out and rescued her he found she was no more in need of assistance than he was.
