DUTIES NEGLECTED

LAND COMMISSIONERS NEW SOUTH WALES BOARD. SYDNEY, December 29. A protracted investigation by the Industrial Magistrate (Mr Prior) resulted in stringent criticism of the three commissioners comprising the Western Lands Board, whom he declared guilty of misbehaviour and incompetence by refusal or deliberate neglect to carry out the duties of their office. The State Government has decided to dismiss them and to appoint the following new board: —Mr P. M. M‘Girr, Legislative Councillor and brother of the State Minister for Local Government; Mr T. Watson, a surveyor, of Forbes, and a Lang plan candidate for Calare at the recent Federal election; and Mr W. Stagg, secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ League. The term of appointment is seven years. Mr M‘6irr, as chairman, receives £ISOO a year and the others £IOOO.

The announcement of the personnel caused a surprise.
