TERRORIST TACTICS

BOMBING OUTRAGES DETECTIVE'S HOME WRECKED. The bombing of the home of Senior Detective H. S. Dunn at St. Kilda, Melbourne, recently, is believed to be an echo of the Greek Club bombing in 1929, in connection with which three men were sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. Mr Dunn was chiefly responsible for the arrest and conviction of the men. He and another detective have also been active during the past few months in breaking up Communist organisations, and as a result threats have been made against them. The detectives investigating the case do not believe, however, that the outrage was committed by Communists or their sympathisers. Following so closely on the attack on Sir Stanley Argyle’s home at Toorak, the latest bombing, the police state, indr-/ cates definitely the existence of a dangerous criminal gang using terrorist tactics in seeking reprisals. It is not thought that the gang will stop at the bombing of Mr Dunn’s home, but that further similar outrages will be planned. Accordingly, preparations have been made to guard the homes of other police officials who have incurred the enmity of the criminal class. The Commissioner of Police said that every available detective had been detailed to take up the investigation of the bombing outrage. Some of the detectives had been working incessantly on the case, and every effort was being made to arrest the miscreants who had made the attack on Mr Dunn and his family. The police regulations, said the commissioner, did not permit of Dunn re ceiving compensation for the damage done to his house, but, no doubt, if representations were made in the proper quarter the detective’s claim would receive full consideration. The commissioner pointed out that the Government reward of £250 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the men who bombed Sir Stanley Argyle’s home still stood. Mr Blarney admitted that Mr Dunn had received a threatening letter some time ago. The Government has oft’ored a reward of £SOO for the apprehension of those responsible for bombing Mr Dunn's house. The Government has also decided to increase the reward for the apprehension of those responsible for bombing the home of Sir Stanley Argyle recently from £250 to £SOO.
