• / PALMER DEFEATS THORNTON. \ , (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., December 28. Ambrose Palmer obtained a points decision against Bob Thornton in a laround contest to-night. Palmer did most . of the leading, and showed cleaner nitting, though Thornton gave a gooa account of himself. -
The seven elephants owned by the Berlin Zoo now have the run "of a large open air enclosure separated from the spectators only by a deep ditch. Among the animals are "Toni," an Indian female elephant, and her three-year-old daughter, "Kalifa," the latter one of the zoo's prime attractions. The father, "Harry,"' is the biggest elephant in any zoo in the world. He devours a ton of hay every 10 days, and drinks some 25 gallons of water daily. / The " animal kindergarten "pi the Berlin Zoo draws, thousands of interested spectators daily. Here tiny lions, brown bears, leopards, and hyenas tumble about indiscriminately and play with each other like poppies or kittens. Three times a day an animal trainer puts a herd of magnificent grown lions and. tigers through their paces in a great cage adjoining the kindergarten.
