POUNAWEA SPORTS CLUB
ANNUAL GATHERING The annual sports under the auspices of the Pounawea Sports Club were held in the Pounawea Domain on Saturday. The weather was fine and the attendance was large, the gate takings totalling £45 10s fid, as against £45 18s fid last year. This does not, however, represent the attendance, as this year there was a large number of members’ tickets sold, which will more than make up the small deficiency in the gate. The programme presented was an interesting one, the entries in all events being excellent and ahead of those of last year. The chopping events proved the most interesting, big fields facing the starter, 24 taking part in the maiden chop. A sheep-guessing competition resulted in Messrs Victor Wilson (Greenfield) and P. Laughton (Glenomaru) guessing the correct weight (5Hb) f while Mr Charles Latta (Dunedin) was second with a guest of Slilb. The results were:— 100 Yards Maiden Handicap.
