The National Mortgage and Agency Company advises that the Malmoa is set down to leave New Plymouth to-morrow for Port Chalmers direct. She Is due at this port on Monday, and will sail again on Wednesday for Wellington. The Malmoa is scheduled to sail finally from Wellington for London, via Montevideo, on September 15/ TONGARIRO FROM LIVERPOOL. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises tiliat the Tongarlro, from Liverpool, arrived at Auckland yesterday. HAURAKI AT AUCKLAND, The Urilon Company’s motor ship Hauraki, from, Los Angeles, arrived at Auckland yesterday. She brings Pacific coast cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney, and Is due at this port about September 18. MATAROA AT SOUTHAMPTON. The Mataroa, which left Wellington on July 29 for Southampton and London, via Panama, arrived at Southampton at noon on Monday. PORT ALMA FROM AMERICA. En route from New York to New .Zealand the Port Alma left Tampico on August 30 after being there for some time. Because of her stay at Tampico she Is now due at Auckland on September 24, and at Dunedin about October 11. Her loading dates have been altered accordingly. GOLDEN CROSS FROM AMERICA. The O. and O. Line steamer Golden Cross arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland to continue discharge of her Pacific coast cargo. Bristol Docks have set up two records, the registered tonnage of vessels arriving from foreign ports and the quantity of foreign imports for the year ended March, 1931, both being in advance of any previous figures. A. A. Morals for holidays at Auckland. , Captain S, E. Martin, the newly appointed master of the tug Lyttelton, was born In Otago. He commenced his career before the mast In the barque Rona. Ho later transferred to steam, when he joined the Union Company's Intercolonial steamer Moerakl. On passing ■ his examinations, he was- appointed third officer of the Te Anau. He was second officer of ‘the Opihl, then owned by ’ Reese Bros,, when that vessel made a trip to England from New Zealand with a cargo, of flax, pelts and tinned meat. Captain Martin was a member of the crew of the Moerakl when she carried the Expeditionary Force to Samoa. Other ships on which he served during the war were the Warrlmoo, which took the 7th Reinforcements, and the Aparlma, which took the 10th Reinforcements, both to Egypt. He made two further voyages to Egypt in the Tofua and one in the Ullmaroa, which carried the 15th Reinforcements. Captain Martin was In the Mokola when that. vessel left, New Zealand for the United Kingdom with the 22nd Reinforcements. When the 1 Union Company’s barque lima was towed from Auckland to Wellington Captain Martin was an officer of the Te Anau, .the steamer which carried out the long tow. In 1023 he joined the staff of the Lyttelton Harbour Board as signalman at Adderley Head: and some time afterwards he was transferred to Lyttelton as watchman. About 10 months ago, on the retirement of Captain Smith, of the dredge Canterbury, Captain Brodie, then mate of the tug, was promoted to sailing master of the Canterbury, and Captain Martin was appointed mate of the tug.
