Saturday, August 8., (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) V *T— " A SERIOUS CHARGE. John Peterson was charged with having wilfully and obscenely exposed his person on the Town Belt, and, on the application of Mr Irwin, he was remanded for a week.—Bail was allowed in his own recognisance of £25 and one' surety of £25, conditional on his reporting daily to the police. ; IDLE AND DISORDERLY. George Doherty pleaded guilty to being an idle and disorderly person in that he had no. lawful visible means of support.—Chief • Detective Quartermain stated that the accused, who was 27 years of age, had resided for some time at Outram, and since the beginning of the year he had done no work. He had been going about the town swindling business people, and although charges of false pretences could have been preferred against him, the police thought it advisible to bring him before the '/mrt on the present charge,— Remarking that business people should be protected and that it was obvious that the, accused needed a lesson, the magistrate imposed on him a sentence iof two months’ imprisonment.
