SATURDAY’S MATCHES ALBANY v. HIGH SCHOOL" OLD BOYS . ( 1 Albany met High School Old Boys on Oval No. 1 under conditions which were not very pleasant and the Reds succeeded in carrying the day by the substantial margin of five goals to one. Old Boys were first to attacks Albany cleared and Dey found an opportunity to retaliate. He forced his way through the opposition and opened the scoring with a good shot. Albany wa's making the pace too fast for Old Boys, and it was not long before Thompson scored the Reds’ second goal. Munro, in goal for Old Boys, was frequently called upon to deal with difficult shots, and his saving was good. Play lost its interest for a time until H. Rennick scored from a melee in front of Old Boys* goal. After another Red attack, Old Boys mado R great effort, but Twose was safe. Shortly before half-time, Old Boys were awarded a penalty bully and Smith was able to open the scoring for his side. Old Boys attacked from the resumption, but were stopped by 'Whitburn, who sent the Rennick brothers away in a rush to the twenty-five, where they were stopped. Old Boys attacked, and Twose kicked clear a good shot by Fiedler. H. Rennick came away and sent to Densen, who had a shot. Hayward stopped it with his pads, but H. Rennick followed m fast and scored. Old Boys initiated a good movement, but Smith shot over the bar. Play at this stage was fast but uninteresting, the ball travelling from one end of the field to the other. Old Boys pressed and gave the Albany defence an anxious time. Gurr was continually feeding his forwards with well-placed hits. Play was confined to the Reds’ twenty- , five for some time, until Dey made a fast rush down the right only to lose possession. A corner resulted, from which Dey scored with a first-timer. The game ended: — Albany 5 goals. H. 5.0.8 1 goalCITY v. TRAINING COLLEGE' Oval No. 3 was in fair condition when City met and defeated Training College on Saturday. From the initial bully Training College set up an attack and kept Smith and Ireland, the City full-backs, busy clearing. Training College kept up the pressure, the pace seemingly being too hot for City, i lay centred about midfield for some time, and then Every made a run down the wing, passed the City full-back, and centred for Souness to secure the opening goal for College. From the bully , City attacked, but a good clearance by Byingans sent the College forwards away in a good combined movement. From this City had to concede a corner, and Souness scored ms second goal, the ball glancing off a City player’s stick and going into the net before Sturgeon realised wnat had happened. Training College kept up the pressure, _ and a mistake by Sturgeon let Every register for Training College. The first spell showed the College forwards combining well, and City defence did not seem to be able to clear. At the commencement of the- second spell City altered the positions of certain players, and the result was evidently justified. From the bully City set up a hot attack, and although the College backs played well the City forwards dominated the game, three goals coming in quick succession from the combined movements of the City team. The whole of the second spell was fast, and the City backs, in Ireland and Penny, were equal to the occasions that arose when they, were called on. After three goals by City the Blacks slackened off for a few minutes, then a fast and good combined movement saw City score the winning goal. From this on City had the better of the game and kept College on the defensive. The game ended: — City 4 goals. Training College ...... 3 goals, Messrs H. F. Payton and E. Calder were referee's. ■ ■ ■ • ! SECOND GRADE. H. 5.0.8. Colts 13, University E nil. THIRD GRADE. High School A 4, Technical College 2. High School B 2, Primary Schools 2. LADIES* GAMES OTAGO v.
