A GRADE. |: FIRST v. TRIANGLE. The match between Triangle and First opened with the latter team attacking . well and scoring two goals, immediately followed by a good shot by Miss M. Parker for Triangle, Some spirited play followed. Triangle centres had good .combination, parsing well to their forwards, but First defence intercepted with a find understanding of each other’s play. The first half ended 4 —l in favour of First. The second spell commenced with more speed, good passes by both sides, and tie balls appeared to be the fashiom Play travelled up and down the field, with a large number of mistakes by both teams. Miss Foster's place was ably filled by Mrs M'Aughtrey, who shot three goals and , v;ho combined well with ner sister. Miss Mabel Mattingly, who was responsible for some very fine long-distance shots. The game between University AI and 0.G.H.5., which decided the winners of the shield for this season, was a particularly interesting one in view of the fact that these two teams were compelled to meet a second time, having drawn on the previous Saturday. High School were this time victorious, the final score being 30— 23. During the first few minutes the play on both sides was scrappy,.but when University finally opened the score, goals on both sides followed in quick succession. School forwards played their usual good game. Miss Guppies being the outstanding player on the field. 1 _ . A striking feature of the University defence was the manner in which they cembinedto get the ball clear to the centre from the back line. Play amongst the University forwards was not up to their usual standard, but improved towards tne latter part of the game. Miss Cowie shooting some good goals. In the centre, play was very keen, Miss Campbell, of _ University, playing a swift game, and intercepting brilliantly, while Miss Benzoni, of High School, played a splendid game. High School defence was speedy, Miss Thomson spoiling University tactics on many occasions. Both sides gave several exhibitions of good passing. Playing at the Waitaki Girls’ High School grounds, in dull and cold weather, which suited the players. Otago’s representative B Grade basket ball team defeated the Oamaru B representatives by 25 to 10. As the score indicates, Otago was considerably the superior side, and the first spell ended 15 to 6 in favour of the visitors. In the second half, however, play was much more even,, although Otago secured 10 successful shots to the local girls’ 5.
