STUDENT STOWAWAYS

AN UNINTENDED VOYAGE REMANDED IN CUSTODY. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 18. Two students of the State Teachers’ College at San Jose, California, arrived in New Zealand last night, though they never intended to come. The names are Thomas Vance and William North. They went to Los Angeles and saw the Swedish motor ship Bullaren, which, they were informed, was going to San X'rancisco, 20 hours away. They stowed away in the engine room and were discovered eight hours later. They then found that the ship was bound for Auckland. This morning both were arrested and charged with stowing away. The police fold the magistrate that the men were prohibited immigrants and there were enough men out of work here already. The accused were remanded in custody.
