THE OKARITO DREDGING COMPANY
TO THE EDITOR. Silt, —A statement appeared in your paper yesterday that one of the directors of the Okarito Gold Dredging Company had wired that the dredge was a splendid machine. It is a pity that you did not mention the name of the director so that one could judge whether he knows what a good dredging machine is. As the machinery of this dredge lay for years on the bank of one of the rivers and was originally built for river bed wash, I am afraid that the bucket will be too narrow in the mouth to deliver sand, unless a jet is used, and if that is done half the gold will go into the well. It is a pity that the Government did not bring in a Bill to prohibit the sale above par of shares in any mining company until the company had started to work.—l am, etc.. One who was Bitten in the Last Dredging Boom. [Tlie above letter has been referred to the secretaries of the company (Messrs W. A. Mitson and Co.), who stated that any shareholder might obtain from them the fullest information available regarding the points raised in the letter or on any other aspect of the company’s claim and dredge. They asserted, however, that the correspondent’s fears were groundless.—Ed., O.D.T.]
