UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Is it the unemployed who receive relief? A case was brought under my notice yesterday of a family that received help in the shape of clothing; from the central depot. This family is off financially than some people who are giving a little out of what they have to maintain the genuine unemployed. The woman at the head of I the family is in receipt of a full pension for herself and. three children. A son of 15 years is in permanent ■ employment, earning 80s weekly, and free milk is supplied oy the Hospital Board. Moreover, this woman herself goes out working. Some weeks ago, from clothing received from various ladies in Dunedin, she was able to send two sugar bags full to “ poor relations in the Homeland. From infants’ clothing received from a sister of a church she is able to send a parcel to a sister of another church to be sold at one of its weekly jumble sales. Yet the Mayoress is urgently in need of baby clothing for expectant mothers who are not able to buy them even for a few pence at a jumble sale. If our city were not expenencipg the distress that is prevalent tothe case which I mention might bo regarded as a huge joke.—l tun, etc.. Not Fair.
