HATRY GROUP FRAUDS
ITALIANS FOUND GUILTY SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT. , MILAN, June 13. (Received June 14, at 8 p.m.) During a week’s trial on charges of fraud, conspiracy and forgery, John Gialdini, alleged that Hatry and his associates, swindled him of £60,000. A deposition by Hatry stated that Gialdini was conversant with all the affairs of the group, and it added: “ I have no animus against him, and I should hate to think that he was going- to share my fate.” “ Gialdini was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, but he has already spent many months in gaol and these will be deducted from the sentence. He was ordered to pay damages of an unspecified amount to Sir Gilbert Garnsey, representing the Hatry companies’ estate, which was sequestrated at the time of his arrest. Gialdini is appealing.
In January, 1930, Clarence Hatry and three others were found guilty on charges of forging of securities involving £2,000,000, and Hatry was sentenced' to 14 years’ penal servitude. The total deficiency of the Hatry group was £13,500,000. A message from Milan on March 16, 1930, stated that Gialdini, an associate of Hatry, was arrested while leaving his hotel.
