NEW ZEALAND BANDS
ONE CONTROLLING BODY ARRANGEMENTS FOR NEXT CONTEST. (Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 12. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Band Contest Committee the president (Mr H, D. Bennett), in his report, stated that the abandoned contest would be held in Wellington in February next. Mr Bennett announced that arrangements for the single control of New Zealand bands had been finalised and the old North Island and South Island Associations had been dissolved in favour of a single body with headquarters in Wellington, Mr J. J. Kelly (New South Wales) was appointed adjudicator for the contest, with Mr A. Schnaek as assistant. The programme provides for cash prizes amounting to £307 for A Grade tests and £179 for'B Grade, with £75 for the quickstep competition. There will also be an “ Own Choice ” hymn contest, open to both grades. A departure will be made from the usual custom in that the contest will be commenced with the big marches on Saturday instead of that event being staged on the last day.
