“HAPPY-GO-LUCKY O’FLYNN”
To-night at His Majesty’s Theatre Ronald Riley will introduce his comedy company, in “ Happy-Go-Lucky O'Flynn,” the Barry Conner’s play which is considered to be a superior work to that author’s well-known “ Patsy.” He has taken for the motif of the play a young man, who believes that happiness is the greatest thing in life. He wants everyone to be happy, and in his own quiet way sometimes neglects the main chance, fin the pursuit of his ideal, but, love overtakes and envelopes him in its toils, and the possible loss of his beloved rouses him to action. He is beset and opposed by parents, uncles, and a wealthy rival, so he calls tact and a liberal supply of “ soft soap ” to his aid, and what force will not achieve diplomacy does. Ronald Riley has played Larry O’Flynn several hundred times, and has built up a finished portrait of the easy-going, good-natured scapegrace. Doreen Scott, in the role of Rose Doyle, gives a picture of a graceful, girl, who puts heart first. As her parents, and the uncle, Marie D’Alton, Joseph Lanphier, and J. Vincent White will be seen in opposition, and Bernard Beeby. in addition to appearing as Charles Daly, the hesitant rival, will also participate in selected musical numbers with Zara, the possessor of a melodious soprano, who will be heard in popular songs in association with the orchestra. On Tuesday evening an Irish night will take place, when parties from various social clubs will attend. Associated bowling club members also have a party scheduled. The box plans will be at the Bristol till midday when both plan and day sales will be available at Hall’s fruit shop in Princes street.
