SLOT MACHINES RAIDED

EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE THREE YOUTHS BEFORE COURT. (Per Unixed Press Association ) AUCKLAND, June 11. Penny poker plnyed in ti bakehouse with coins taken from stamp machines and telephone slot machines which they had raided was one 1 of the pastimes indulged in by three young men who appeared at the Police Court this morning and admitted a series of charges. They were Albert .tames Clark, aged 19: Frederick Joseph Naden, aged 22. and Leonard James Montrose Stanway, aged 18. A fourth voutb was arrested, but as he is a juvenile he will be dealt with at the Children’s Court. The three accused appeared on numerous charges of damaging slot machines and stealing the contents. Detective Sergeant Kelly said that sincr the arrest of these four youths no furthei ■thefts from slot machines had been > re ported and there was no doubt that the three men now before the court and Another youth who was to come before another court were responsible. The district telegraph engineer estimates that a total sum Of £8 4s 8d was stolen from postage stamp machines and that the damage done to them was £3 8s sd. So far as the engineer could calculate £8 in pennies was stolen from /the telephone slot machines, which were damaged to the extent of £SO 10a 7d. These young men had at different times used a motor ca* and two motor cycles when they toured round by night damaging and stealing from slot machines. The magistrate remanded the accused for sentence.
