On a charge of negligently driving a car so as to cause the death of his brother at Rotorua, Francis James Williseroft, was found not guilty by the jury after a short retirement.
NAPIER, June 11
In the Supreme Court to-day Alfred Arthur Gurney was sentenced for the theft of a car and goods, the property of a man injured in the earthquake. The Chief Justice (Mr Justice Myers) inflicted a sentence of three years’ imprisonment, saying that his only doubt was whether the punishment was severe enough for so despicable a theft.
