A statement on the Milton Borough Council’s finances presented by the Finance Committee at last night s meeting of the Borough Council disclosed a debit balance on the general account of fIOID 16s 9d at June 8. Accounts totalling £50.. 13s 8d were passed for payment. i ,

SKATING RINK. Fearing the possibility of damage resulting to its Coronation Hall «o°r ami walls of the building, the Borough Council has again declined renewed application from a Dunedin company to lease the hall for a skating rink. GENERAL ELECTION. Inquiries are already being made by the returning officer for Clutha electorate as to the lease of the local Coronation Hall as a polling place for Milton at the forthcoming general election. 1 On the principle of effecting economies on polling day the returning officer ot Clutha electorate is proposing to eliminate the usual polling booths at Raurekau and Glenore, where 18 and 22 votes were .recorded respectively at the 1928 election. He considers the electors in these localities will be amply catered for at other booths-not too tar distant, and that the postal voting system would provide tor those electors who are more than hve miles distant from a polling booth on election day. Whilst playing football yesterday afternoon a pupil of the Secondary Department at Toko High School named James M'Neur, aged 13 years, the elder son of the Rev. and Mrs A. M'Neur, received a fracture of the left leg below the knee. He was taken to Balclutha Hospital for X-ray examination, and brought home this morning. v . GIRL GUIDES.

Milton Girl Guides celebrated the fifth anniversary of formation of the company this week with a fancy dress and hard-up social. The president (Mrs James Gray) presented several five years attendance stars to Guides -who had been connected with the company since its inception, also four years’ and two years’ badges, in addition to nine cyclists’,-two embroideress. and one musician’s badge. RUGBY FOOTBALL.

To permit the use of the local football ground for the South Otago seven-a-side hockey tournament on Saturday afternoon. the Toko B-Owaka Senior Grade banner match has been postponed to later in the season. Toko A team plays Clutha on the latter’s ground. Toko juniors play Clutha High School at Moneymore.
