HAMPDEN WATER SUPPLY

TO THE EDITOR. Sir _«Boob,” in answer to “Progress,” picked out seven points on which he advised concentration. I have accepted his advice and submit the following;— (1) “There is nothing golden in hew Zealand now, barring an occasional sunset ” All that glitters is not gold certainly, but the glitter on pure sparkling drinking water is worth untold gold. (2) “ The few councillors have many backers.” The “ water men ” have quite a few backers also, especially among the ratepayers. _ „ (3) “Boob” believes “Progress means cold water. Absolutely—and plenty of it —also hot, especially in the washhouse and bathroom. (4) “ Boob ” considers “ Progress wa s rude and probably quite unjustified when he wrote that “ grossly misleading tactics were employed. It is rude and certainly “not done ” to say a man is not speaking the truth. And why “probably? The statement was either true or absolutely untrue. , , , (5) “ Hampden has, at the present time, as much chance of borrowing the moon as of borrowing £4OOO. Why make all the fuss then, especially before the election to put the water men out? (6) “ Some of the quarter-acre sections are worth about 8s 9d.” True; but when I have tried to buy a few of them I was asked considerably more than that sum. (7) “There is no proper drainage, and hardly an up-to-date convenience in the place.” When we get our badly required pure water supply, we must also have drainage, and thanks to that we will have plenty of up-to-date conveniences.— I am, etc., Aqua.
