People are growing more catholic in their taste in pets, and leopard, lion, and bear cub's are all being sold by animal shops in Britain to customers who think they are more interesting than cats or dogs. _ At the other end of the scale, pet ipice are in favour at the moment — possibly a tribute to the popularity of Mickey Mouse. Even snakes—of the harmless variety—are being bought as pets. They are more interesting than most people would suppose, and it was recently revealed that at least one member of the House of Commons had a liking for pets of this kind. Perhaps as a result of the growing popularity of reptiles, the export of green lizards, grass snakes, and similar animals from Jersey has just been prohibited. It is claimed that the island’s reptiles are of great use tb agriculture, and therefore they have to be preserved.
