CITY POLICE COURT
Thursday, June 11. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Robert Joseph Moore, who appeared on a charge of drunkenness, was remanded for seven days for medical treatment. James Moore, a statutory first offender, for drunkenness was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. __ FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. John M'Culloch Forsyth was charged with, on June 9, having from Donald Hadfield the sum of £2O by falsely representing that he would employ any one as a motor driver wha would pay him £2O. He was further charged with having, on June. 22. at Christchurch, obtained from Redben Bradbury the sum of £ls by falsely representing that he had a grain carting contract at Rangiora and would give Bradbury employment as a truck driver conditional on nis producing £ls as bond. The accused pleaded guilty to each charge.—Chief Detective Quartermain stated that the accused sorted an advertisement in a loeal paper, as the result of which he was waited o by Hadfield, from whom he as a bond for giving .him. (Hadfield) a position as a truck driver The accused however, did not possess a tnick ihe chief detective then asked for a weeKS remand in order that evidence with reference to the. second might be secured from Christchurch, the remand being granted.
