Mr W; D. Warren, of Queenstown, who has been’on a visit to Dunedin, left on his return to his home yesterday.Sergeant M. Angland, of Auckland, who has 'been spending a holiday in Southland, passed through Dunedin last evening on his way to Timaru. Mr H. D. Skinner, lecturer on ethnology at the Otago University, and Mr Kenneth Emery, leader of the Bishop Museum Ethnological Expedition in Eastern Polynesia, paid a visit yesterday to Maori camping sites on the Otago Peninsula, and carried out some excavation Mr W. Paterson, secretary of the Early Settlers’ Association, and Mrs Paterson celebrated their golden wedding at their residence, Fifield street, Rosiyn, on Monday. On Tuesday Mr Paterson was met by the committee of the association and presented with a Morris chair. The presentation was made by M f J ; Mallard, president of the association. Mr E. J. Wiseman, director of the African Steam Transport Company, passed away, after a long illness, at his residence in' Johannesburg on April 28. The deceased was born ip the Fiji Islands, where his father was manager of a sugar estate. He was educated in New Zealand, and matriculated at the Boys’ High School, Invercargill, where his father had taken up his residence. .. A Press Association telegram from JNew Plymouth states that Mr W. T. Young, of Wellington, has been appointed to nil the vacancy on the Unemployment Bowl caused by the resignation of Min W. Bromley. The appointment was made by the Governor-General for the remainder of. the term for which Mr Bromley was appointed. In making the announcement the chairman of the Unemployment Board (Mr'S. G. Smith) said that nominations were called from all workers’ organisations concerned. Only five nominations were received. ' ~ , Mr Charles A Martin, one of Dunedin s leading musicians, will leave Dunedin in September for a trip to the Old Country, in order to' continue his musical studies. Before he goes,, it'is the intention of the local musical societies to tender him a complimentary concert. With this object in view, delegates from the Royal Dunedin Male Choir, the Dunedin Choral Society, the Returned Soldiers’ Choir, the Lyric Choir, the Dunedin Musical Society, the Dunedin Orchestral and Philharmonic Societies, and the Society of Musicians met on Tuesday evening to make the necessary arrangements. The programme has not yet been definitely arranged, but the chief item is to be Mr Martin’s own recent composition, “ Ode on a Grecian Urn.
