(Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, June ,10. Peter Reilly, a taxi driver, was found guilty of the theft of £BOO from James Joseph Leonard, a farmer. Charles Nunns was discharged by the Chief Justice at the conclusion of the Crown case, Mr Justice Myers stating that there was nothing more than suspicion against Nunns. WAIPUKURAU, June 10. The fifty-third conference of the Hawke’s Bay District, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, was commenced at Waipawa to-day under the auspices of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge. The district grand master (Mr N. J. M’Kay), presided. The grand secretary detailed information regarding the proposals of the board of directors' scheme for the restoration of the earthquake damage. The loss was estimated at £9OOO. The Management Committee reported on the healthy condition of the membership —2841. The cup for highest increase in membership was won by the Loyal Lodge. In the Supreme Court a nolle prosequi was entered in the case of Elsie Livesey for alleged attempted murder. The grand jury returned no bill in a case of alleged forgery against William O’Neill, a clerk in the State mine. The jury made a recommendation that the Government system of signing receipts be altered, so that any person receiving money on behalf of another person should add his or her own name to the receipt. In the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Adams, Henry Edward Greenway was found guilty of assaulting Daniel Ne«nan at Reefton on March 4. with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The prisoner was remanded till. Friday morning for sentence. •
