“HAPPY-GO-LUCKY O’FLYNN”
Mr Ronald Riley’s season at His Majesty’s Theatre will be opened next Saturday with Barry O’Conners’s . play “ Happy-Go-Lucky O’Flynn. ’ Doleful predictions, are sometimes made regarding the well-being of the legitimate stage, but well-written, modern plays, which deal with thp lighter side of human nature, always command a big following, and the gifted author of “ The Patsy ” has shown that he has the knack of appealing to the sympathies as well, as the risible faculties of an audience. “ Happy-Go-Lucky O’Flynn abounds in clever characterisa-. tions. There is Larry O’Flynn, who conceals a wealth of native shrewdness behind hn air of careless abandon and prefers a little persuasive “ blarney ” to the dynamic “he-man” attitude, How this system prevails over parental opposition in his ■ matrimonial quest is entertainingly told. Mr Riley has an easy, natural method that is very effective. A big variety of roles, from heavy drama tq “Charleys Aunt,” has given him balance and poise. Doreen Scott as Rose Doyle (the subject of his quest), Joseph Lanphier, Marie D’Alton, and the other ■ members of the cast will figure in effective scenes, and a special feature will be bright intervals, during which Zara, a gifted young vocalist, will render popular numbers, ihe box plans are at the Bristol.
