MOTOR CARNIVAL ACCIDENT. SPECTATOR FATALLY INJURED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) SYDNEY, June 9. (Received June 9, at 10 p.m.) Walter Williams, aged 32, one of the victims of the motor cycle Accident at Rydalmere, died to-day. Three others are in a serious condition. During a motor cycle V carnival at Rydalmere a competitor’s machine dashed over a bank into the crowd and 20 people were injured, of whom five suffered broken legs, while two others suffered fractured thighs. ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION. SOLICITOR AND CLERK CHARGED. —: I ■ v SYDNEY, June 9. (Received June 9, at 10 p.m.) William Clegg and Leila Smith were committed for trial, the former on 14 charges and Smith on five charges of misappropriation of his clients’ money. Detectives gave evidence that they had seen Clegg and Smith many times at the races together. • ■ ! Recently detectives arrested a prominent city solicitor, William Carnegie Clegg, aged 60, and his clerk, Mrs Leila Beryl Smith, aged 37, on charges of misappropriation of clients’ moneys. Detectives told the court that many thousands of pounds were involved in the accusations, and they also gave evidence' that a number of clients’ mortgages did not exist, while several mortgages had been discharged and the money paid into Clegg’s office, but had never been accounted for. • Various subterfuges were employed when clients sought their money. Smith, who carried out most of the conveyancing, told the detectives that everything was legitimate so far as she was aware.
