She sailed last night for Oamaru,. Timaru and Lyttelton to complete loading for Napier and Gisborne. The Government motor ship Maul Pomare, which arrived In the Lower Harbour late on Monday night from Apia and Niue Island, came to Dunedin yesterday morning to discharge a part cargo of bananas. The vessel brought two passengers—Messrs F. R. Plomlnsky (for Lyttelton) and J. B. Bleakley (for Wellington), The motor ship left Niue on the afternoon of May 30 and experienced strong southerly and south-west weather throughout the voyage, which delayed her arrival b* about eight hours. She sailed yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland to complete discharge. THE PERRY STEAMERS. The Union Company’s ferry steamer Maori, which was laid up at Lyttelton for her annual overhaul and survey, has resumed her running in the Lyttelton-Wellington service in place of the Wahine. The Wahine has been withdrawn for her annual overhaul and survey at Lyttelton. i RUAHINE FROM ENGLAND. A wireless message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the captain of the Ruahlne states that the vessel will arrive at Auckland on Sunday afternoon from London and Southampton. The Ruahlne Is bringing passengers for New Zealand, and cargo for discharge at Auckland and Wellington. TANKER LAUREL ARRIVES. An arrival at Dunedin yesterday morning was the tanker Laurel, from San Fraucisco, via Hobart and Melbourne. She was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge a part cargo of motor spirit Into the Vacuum Oil Company’s tanks on the foreshore. The Laurel, which is making her first visit to this port, was built at Glasgow In 1930. She Is owned by the Oil Transporter Company, of Stockholm, has a gross tonnage of 9500, Is 481 feet 5 inches in length, breadth 05 feet 4 inches and depth 33 feet 7 Inches. The Laurel is to sail to-morrow for San Francisco. ♦ PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain W. S. Hodgson is in command of the Shaw, Savill liner lonic, whicli arrived at Wellington on Monday from London, via Auckland.

v FEBRUARY SHIPPING LOSSES. The casualty returns of the Liverpool.Underwriters' Association for February shows that nine steam and motor vessels, aggregating 23,828 tons gross, were totally lost (all of foreign ownership) as compared with 11 vessels and 33,425 tons In February last year, and 20 vessels 6f 54,396 tons in February, 1929. The partial losses numbered 581 as against 717 In February last year, 747 tn February, 1929. and 651 in February, 1928.

CONDITIONS AT GHEYMOUTH. Weather conditions wqre again bad at Greymouth last Friday. The Greymouth bar has now been practically unworkable since May 26, the only vessel to clear the bar since then being the Kaiingo, which was in light trim and left last Wednesday for Sydney.' Several ships have been held up at Greymouth since May 26, and those bar-bound there yesterday were the Kaimai, loaded for Wellington ; Kaponga, for Wellington and Auckland ; Kartigi, for Wellington and Napier; Kinl. for New Plymouth and Wellington; Kiwltea, for Auckland; and Poolta, for Brisbane. CANADIAN STATE SHIPPING. The total operating revenue of the Canadian Mercantile Marine for 1930 shows a decrease. The revenue stands at 5,165,000 dollars, as compared with 8,371,000 dollars for the previous year. Expenses are 5,999,000 dollars, as compared with 9,250,000 dollars for 1929, and there Is a deficit of 834,000 dollars, as compared with 879,000 dollars. Taking into account depreciation, reserve vessels, and interest on Government advances, the net deficit for the year is 5,844,000 dollars, as compared with 5,928,000 dollars in 1929. She was berthed at the George street wharf. Port Chalmers, and will come to Dunedin this morning to discharge the local portion of her Canadian cargo. The vessel sailed from Halifax on April 25 and cleared Panama on May 5. v Generally fair weather prevailed op the voyage until May 31, when a south-west gale was experienced ana delayed her arrival at Auckland by about seven hours. . , .. An arrival at Dunedin yesterday afternoon was the American steamer Golden Cloud, from Pacific coast ports, via Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. Shb was berthed at the Victoria wharf, where the. local portion of her Canadian and American cargo will be discharged. The cargo was loaded at San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Coos Bay and Los Angeles. She sailed from Los Angeles on May 1. Moderate weather prevailed except during the last three days of the voyage, when a south-west gale was experienced and delayed the vessel’s arrival at Auckland.
