( Frost Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, May 7. BOROUGH ELECTIONS. After the returning officer had announced the results of the polling for councillors on Wednesday candidates addressed the electors in the Town Hall, which was packed. The Mayor and Cr Ashworth made feeling reference to the passing of ex-Cr J. A. O’Kane, who had proved a very efficient, helpful, and progressive councillor, and whose death was to be deplored. The speakers also referred to the retirement of ex-councillor W. Black through ill-health, and of Mr W. Hewitt. Both these gentlemen had given of their best in the interests of ratepayers, and had proved worthy councillors. FOOTBALL. The half-yearly meeting of Vincent Oddfellows’ Lodge was held in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday, and a very pleasant evening was spent. The ceremoney was carried out by D.D.G.M., Bro. W Nelson, of Wakatipu Lodge, assisted by D.D.G. Marshal Bro. C. W. Lloyd Williams and Bro. R. Bowie, J. Limn, D. Hand, Towan, and F. Partridge, and the officers were installed as follow: P.G., Bro. J. R. Earwarker; N.G., Bro. A. A. Williamson; V.G., Bro. R. Love; secretary Bro. D. Hand; treasurer, Bro, J. Lunn; warden, Bro. W. J. Russell; conductor, Bro. G. L. Strang; chaplain, Bro. A. Stuart; R.S.S., W. Tiley; L.S.S.. R. Allnntt: R.S.N.G., Bro. W. R. Lloyd Williams; L.S.N.G., R. Henderson; R.S.V.G., C. W. Lloyd Williams; L.S.V.G. Bro. J. T. Downes; 1.G., Bro. R. Long: 0.G.. Bro. E H. White. The D.D.G.N., Bro. W. R. Lloyd Williams invested P.G., Bro! J. R. Earwarker, with a past grand’s collar and jewel in recognition of his services to the Order, and installed Bro. A. A. Williamson into the office of N.G. Bro Williamson thanked the members for the confidence they had placed in him. A great number of brothers and sisters of Rose of Knkawau were present. After the installation an enjoyable social hour was partaken of, and the usual toasts were honoured. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.” On Saturday evening a number of officers and members of Alexandra and Cromwell lodges travelled to Queenstown to install officers of Wakatipu Lodge. ' BURGLARY. On Thursday and Sunday nights of last week the drapery store of Messrs W. Duncan and Co. was broken into. The burglar or . burglars apparently gained admittance by opening a window with a jemmy. So far as the proprietor can tell there was little or nothing taken, but as a considerable stock is held it would be hard to estimate any loss. SCHOOL COMMITTEE, Much interest has been aroused in the affairs of the school committee. It has transpired that two of the members are not eligible for office, and_ three others have tendered their resignations. A meeting will bo held to fill the five vacancies. GAME SEASON. The game season opened on Friday last, but with less enthusiasm than was displayed last year, as it was considered that there were not the same number of duck and quail available. Some good bags have been recorded, and excellent sport has beenienjoyed. PERSONAL. Mrs J. Gardiner left for Dunedin on Monday for a short holiday. Mr R. Young, inspector for the National Bank, is carrying out his annual inspection of the local branch. Mr D. Surrell, of Wellington, Las arrived in Alexandra on a business visit. Mrs A. Robertson, of Middletnarch, is the guest of Mrs A. M. Taylor. Mr and Mrs F. Dobbie left on Saturday for a holiday. Miss M, Hogg, of Wellington, is the guest of Mr A. Davidson.
