STABLE WOOL PRICES

A NOTE OF OPTIMISM ROAD CLEAR TO RECOVERY, (United Press Association.) (By ' Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 1. (Received April 2, at 1 a.m.) Amid the prevailing depression a note of optimism is expressed by the statistical correspondent of the Financial Times, who points out that its weekly commodity index has practically been unaltered since the end of January. “Wholesale prices have fallen less than one point during the past two months in America, France, Italy and Germany, as well as here, where materials are now higher. The fall in foodstuffs is mainly seasonal, while in certain categories, notably wool, the recovery in prices has definitely begun. Stability is more pronounced and has lasted longer than last year’s hesitant and abortive checks. It would seem reasonable to anticipate a period of stable prices, in which etock will be gradually liquidated in orderly fashion and confidence will return. If so the bottom has been reached and the road is clear to recovery.
